“Through MOSIP Decode, we engage brilliant young minds from student communities worldwide, empowering them to reimagine the future of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI). This vibrant collective energy fuels our mission as countries across the globe adopt MOSIP and other Digital Public Goods (DPGs) to build inclusive DPI systems that reach every citizen, leaving no one behind and transforming innovation into a powerful force for societal progress.”  - Sasikumar Ganesan, MOSIP’s Head of Engineering

Yet another run of our student-focused hackathon, MOSIP Decode 2025, wrapped up earlier last month.

As an open-source, foundational digital ID enabler we have always maintained a community-centric approach to technology. Conducted this time in collaboration with the International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore, MOSIP Decode 2025 emerged from our broader goal of engaging with young developers and encouraging open innovation within the DPI ecosystem.

Over 1,000 teams of student developers from universities across the world spent four months, starting 1 July 2025, devising digital identity solutions for real-world problems by leveraging MOSIP’s open-source platform. A total of 25 teams submitted a complete solution to their selected problem statements, and these were evaluated by external panelists.

The jury panel comprised MOSIP’s internal experts—technical specialists, solution architects, and product leaders—as well as distinguished professionals and experts from our academic and research partners such as Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) - Upanzi Network Africa, and The Alan Turing Institute.

To maintain integrity of evaluation, all solutions were presented under aliases, keeping the identity of institutions concealed. The top 2 solutions and 8 finalists emerged from the jury’s assessment of all solutions on functionality, quality, integration with MOSIP, and problem complexity.

Award Ceremony and Next Steps

This global hackathon concluded with the announcement of the winners on November 9th, 2025, at IIITB’s tech fest, Synergy.

The top 2 solutions received monetary prizes from a pool of USD 5,000, and the winning solution will be showcased at MOSIP Connect 2026 to a global audience representing over 30 countries. Additionally, the 8 finalists will now move forward to refine their solutions through MOSIP internships, with the potential to integrate into MOSIP-led technologies, which have been adopted by 27 countries across the Asia-Pacific, Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

MOSIP Decode 2025 stands in a long series of our initiatives aimed at collaboration, and co-creation but with a specific focus on the student community and we find ourselves rewarded by its success. Through the hackathon we have not only been able to introduce young developers into the DPI landscape, but it has also enabled us to support them in expanding the field of innovation within this space.

One of our founding principles is a human-centric approach to technology and to this end we have sought the participation of the communities we have been engaged with. Involving young developers in enabling open-source and inclusive systems has furthered our collective approach to technology, and the engagement and innovations we witnessed have reinforced our commitment to developing community-driven solutions. It is now our hope that the incentives of internships and global showcase build and advance a community of young developers driving towards open-source and inclusive digital public infrastructure.
