# MOSIP > MOSIP (Modular Open Source Identity Platform) is a not-for-profit digital public good that offers countries modular, open-source technology to build and own their national foundational identity systems. It was established in 2018 at the International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIIT-Bangalore). Key facts: - The MOSIP platform code is owned and maintained by IIIT-Bangalore on behalf of MOSIP and licensed under the Mozilla Public License 2.0. The platform, its extensions and professional services are offered to country partners free of cost. - The architecture has over 20 independent building blocks (pre-registration, registration, registration processor, ID repository, authentication, partner management and more), so countries can build from scratch (Greenfield model) or extend existing systems (Brownfield model). - Principles: modular, open source, vendor-neutral, secure, human-centric and inclusive. Countries keep full ownership and choose their own system integrators, ABIS providers, biometric modalities and devices. - MOSIP supports UN Sustainable Development Goal target 16.9: legal identity for all, including birth registration, by 2030. Nearly 850 million people worldwide lack legal and verifiable ID. - MOSIP has had 31 country engagements across Asia Pacific, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. - The current platform release is MOSIP 1.2.0 Long Term Support (LTS), released in February 2022. - Related products: eSignet (identity verification and login) and Inji (verifiable credentials stack). - Contact: info@mosip.io ## About - [The MOSIP Project](https://www.mosip.io/mosip_project): Mission, history, guiding principles and the link to SDG 16.9. - [Governance](https://www.mosip.io/governance): Executive Committee, Technology Committee and International Advisory Group. - [People](https://www.mosip.io/people): Leadership and core team. ## Technology - [Platform & Modules](https://www.mosip.io/platform_modules): Overview of the MOSIP platform, the 1.2.0 LTS release and key modules. - [MOSIP Modules](https://www.mosip.io/mosip_modules): The modular architecture and what each building block does. - [Versions](https://www.mosip.io/versions): Release history and MOSIP 1.2.0 LTS ("Asymmetric Amoeba") features. - [Putting ID to Use](https://www.mosip.io/putting_id): Using foundational ID for service delivery, including eSignet, Inji and reference integrations (OpenCRVS, OpenG2P, eMudhra, e-Manas, DHIS2). - [Standards & Interoperability](https://www.mosip.io/standards_interoperability): MOSIP's open standards work (IEEE, Claim 169 QR code, GovStack) and interoperability approach. - [eSignet](https://www.mosip.io/eSignet): Identity verification solution for logging in to online services with any trusted ID.
